RE: Norcal Camping

We also enjoy being able to circle up the wagons at Dillon Beach. Funny you mention Dillon Beach. Lawson's landing is my family. My paternal grandmother's sister was a Lawson, all kinds of family up there. If you go say Hi to any of the Lawson's but if they're younger than 70 they probably won't know the long lost Nay leg of the family.

RE: packing wheel bearings

So you all think I should repack I think. What should I pay if I have someone do it? I'm out of time to do it myself (leaving next weekend for a week's vacation). One shop quoted me $270.00, seemed a bit stiff to me.

packing wheel bearings

How often do you all repack your trailer wheel bearings? I don't monitor my mileage, mostly go about 200 miles per trip, average once a month and then vacation once a year for more, maybe 1,000 miles (hey what do you know I just estimated my mileage at +/-9,200). Is it time to repack?

RE: Tie Down Bar w/"J" hook

I sure wish they made this before I made the one I have. Mine has to be bolted in so had to add two more holes in the floor and not as nifty, wish I would have thought about doing it with the J hooks.

RE: Marine Corps and Johnson Valley

Please anyone interested in saving the largest off road area in So Cal, attend one of these meetings. It is VITAL to saving Johnson Valley OHV, that we let them know we wont allow our riding areas to be taken from us. Thank you, you are so right. If we form a united front we might have a chance. The latest thing to surface is that the CBD is against this as well, do we have an allie in a greenie group?

RE: Finally.... Our first trip to Dove Springs

That's a nice spot on an open weekend but you DO NOT want to camp in that area on a big weekend, it's CRAZY busy. Did you get any rain? We were in Ridgecrest Wed thru Mon. and got nothing but HUGE wind on Sat.

RE: A big thank you for great Service

I sure wish I knew how to apply Silicone Caulking that well. I usually get it all over the place and myself as well. They did a great job fixing that up for you. I need to remove the old silicone above my windows and doors and scrape away that nasty looking putty they put behind them. You know, that light gray putty stuff that oozes out after a couple of years and turns black from all the dust that sticks to it. Just trying to figure out the best way to remove all that stuff without taking the paint with it. Try a plastic putty knife, it should scrape off the old stuff without gouging the paint, etc. Don't scrape the putty stuff down too much though Al as that's the seal between the window and the siding. I think they use silicone to protect/hide the putty. I use an ice cube to smooth the silicone, doesnt stick to water and sure a lot cleaner than using your finger. I just steal a bowl of ice cubes from the ice maker, instant tools!

RE: Onan 5500 oil change

2008 Raptor with Onan 5500 uses WIX # 57398. WIX makes NAPA filters. I just purchased from Fleet Filters for $6.32 plus shipping. Thanks I'll give that a try.

RE: run generator all night to run heater fan?

Run the generator about 1-2 hours before bed and the furnce about 1/2 hour - 45 minutes before bed then set the furace at about 55 degrees...climb into the warm bed with an extra blanket then in the morning turn the heat uo to take the chill off and turn the generator back on... Short and sweet, the best plan and the one we use, works just fine. When we're making dinner and eating, maybe watching T.V. we run the genny then go to bed with the heater set down to 55. Get up in the A.M. and turn up the heat when using the potty, jump back in the warm bed until it warms up. Then get up and turn on the genny and make coffee, run the genny again for an hour or so. Never had a battery problem but I've got the two Trojan T-105's too. Only issue was Jan. '07 when it was 6 degrees at 6:00 A.M. and EVERYONE'S water was frozen, that was miserable.

RE: Onan 5500 oil change

What oil filter did you use for this? I need to change the oil in mine but cannot find the right part# for it. I am not sure if the manual was omitted from my paper work or I lost it. How much oil does it take as well. I will have to order as there is not a Onan/Cummins dealer close. Thanks,I used NAPA filters on the 5500 in my last toyhauler but I can't remember the part number. NAPA should be able to cross reference that Onan part number. Good luck on that, I tried and could not neither could my friend who's a certified Onan warranty center, he has to use the Onan filter too. I tried to match up a Fram but had no luck. On my Generac it was a piece of cake.

RE: Staying a night in a loaded toyhauler

I can sleep all but two with two bikes across the back. Lower the bed down to the top of the bikes and its useable, could fold out both other beds if need by but only slept two with bikes in so far. Fifth wheel helps.

RE: 250ccscooter on a trailerhitch

This is what I bought link I secure the wheels and then strap the front and across the seat. Me too, bought it on ebay. I haul my 450x. Weighs about 275 works great. Have a cousin with one too and he loves it. I use one strap on each wheel to hold it in the channel then the two tie downs on the handlebars like they say. I add another between the bike and the truck for added safety.

Reading this explains why they took the siding off one side when I took it in for warranty work at Rage'n. Guess they might have fixed it?

RE: Funny (not) thing happened while we were at Pismo...

All of the families I hang with are responsible adults but we know how to have fun. Ain't no quiet time at 10:00 PM when we camp!!!!!!!! VERY WELL PUT. Be responsible and HAVE FUN!!! That's why we camp/ride where we do, so we don't have to put up with people like this.

RE: Funny (not) thing happened while we were at Pismo...

Nothing surpises me when it comes to toy haulers. I was at a local dealership a few weeks ago and I pulled out of the parking lot just ahead of an owner that just took delivery of his new 3-axel TH. I guess I wasn't driving fast enough for him so he proceded to lay on the horn as we entered the freeway. I wasn't towing and was going the posted 65mph (55 for towing). Well, along comes this guy passing me like I was standing still and "waving" at me as he goes by. I live in the high desert and the area is the gate-way to some OHV areas and quite a few THers use this freeway and I swear most of the ones I see are always speeding well over the speed limit. I guess that the toy hauler breed are mostly (not all) a different animal and not true RVers because their driving habits, attitude and social skills leave much to be desired and echo another kind of lifestyle all together. I think you should rethink this post. Your generalizations are extremely rude and cannot be overlooked by just adding "(not all)". I've met some of the people on this board that are in So Cal and most of them are friendly with more than I and therefore I know what "animal" they are and they ARE true RVers. I for one will not stand still and let our cummunity get bashed over the head by some short sighted pompus *** that wants to put all toy hauler owners into a specific "breed". As a matter of fact most toy hauler owners are families that have these trailers for the specific intent of enjoying off road recreation with their families and furthermore teach their children to be responsible adults and recreate responsibly on our public lands. You sir, have insulted me and the good people on this board. Next time think about what you're saying before you make such statements.

RE: Full race rigs

I would think with a race team you really need a race car type trailer, not a toy hauler. The dedicated race car trailers have work benches, storage etc. instead of kitchens and stuff. A neighbor uses a dedicated tow rig/hauler for his that has the living quarters on the truck and the trailer is all shop and it's a stacker, real high dollar.

RE: Where do you keep your electrical cord?

i guess i am lucky...my attitude has a compartment that the male comes out of for shore power. the cord is like 30 ft long..... my friends forest river product doesnt have the compartment though Rage'n is hte same but I hated to have to stuff that thing back in the little compartment, especially when cold. I cut it at about 8', enough to plug in at home and made the rest of the cord into a 30 amp extension cord. Roll it up and tie it with a piece of electical wire and throw it in a plastic box along with the water hose, 15 amp extension cord, etc. that stays in the pass through compartment. Thought about the top of the genny too but like the OP was afraid it would be too hot. The only thing I keep in there is an extra quart of oil in front of the genny.

RE: My tour of duty in Tallahassee comes to an end.

YUCK! I've done the asphalt parking lot before for an overnight but two months like that would get old quick.
